Two American Silver Casters with Crest of Jones, Boston or Possibly Rhode Island, 1750-70, each of vase shape on a molded foot, engraved with the crest of a stag’s head erased for the Jones family, the cover pierced with alternating formal foliate strapwork and trellis diaperwork panels, turned bell finial, apparently unmarked. 9 oz. total. Heights 5 3/4 and 6 7/8 inches.
Provenance: Descended in the family of Boston merchant John Jones (1709-1767) and Mary Anne Faneuil Jones (1715-1790), sister of Peter Faneuil.
Literature: A coffee pot engraved with the Jones crest and coat-of-arms descending in the same family was sold at Sotheby’s New York, Fine American Furniture, Silver, Folk Art, June 30-July 1, 1983, lot 96 and Christie’s New York, Important American Furniture, Folk Art and Silver, January 20, 2017, lot 765.
