Redingote Angloise a Trois Colets et Bavaroise. Paris : Nicolas Dupin after Pierre-Thomas LeClerc (French, c. 1749-1799). 1780. Rare 1912 reprint edition by Paul Cornu from 1780 original hand-colored, line engraving, published in Galerie des Modes et Costumes Français; on laid paper, 11 ¼ x 8 1/8 in. platemark, triple-matted within UV-glazed, white metal frame (not examined outside of frame), 18 x 15 in. overall. A fashionable riding coat or surtout of the newest English cut in 1780, worn with a “Bavarian” (also called an Alpine)–a round hat with rolled, narrow brim, precursor of the Tyrolean hat of today.
