Length 89 inches, height 16.5 inches, depth 27 inches. Old repairs to the bottom of bed.
Late 18th century wooden bed, For treatment of an ill individual, the bed would be anointed with oils. This types and kind were made from one trunk of the iroko tree and were commissioned by kings, chiefs and priests, and or people of distinction. This bed exhibit a rich patina, a raised headrest with circular and U- shaped carving at the base, and with an incised notches in group of five extending down the side, again, number five indicates grace.
There are only a few kind of this size of wooden bed in American museums and collections, you may find a similar style at the Denver Art museum
