Floral decorated lid on red ground, fitted interior with two knives, two scissors (later additions), etc. with label of Dr. Gilman Daveis inside lid with later added inscription “Presented by Gilman Daveis to T A Foster”. Dr. Gilman Daveis (1816-1873) of Portland was a Bowdoin Graduate and one of the earliest ophthalmologists in Maine. Dr T. A Foster (1827-1897) was a physician in Portland, Maine. Both were actively involved in the early days of the Maine Medical Association. Paint wear. Length 12.25 inches.
