Middle Street above intersection of Exchange Street, after the 1866 Fire. This Lithograph, created to illustrate the condition of Middle Street, as shown in one
of the earliest known photographs taken in 1844 and illustrated in the second edition of Willis’s “History of Portland, ” 1865. A large percentage of the printed and
unbound sheets for the edition were burned up by the fire. This Lithograph was published by the Bufford Bros., Boston, after a sketch, by J. E. Baker. Probably less
than 100 copies were printed. Image 13.5 x 24 inches. Archivally framed and matted, 26 x 36.5 inches.
