From the artist:

My interest in the relationship of the human body to sculpture led to these sculptures. The
Shields and
Helmets are scaled to the body and are meant to be part of one’s living environment—they can be hung up or worn. They are skeletal to emphasize our fragility and our interconnections. Their openness gives room for communication, while their form gives protection.

The Ribs were first inspired by seeing skeletons of birds and snakes at Harvard’s Peabody Museum. I was struck by the delicacy of the skeletons, but also reminded of their strength. My interest in the balance between fragility and endurance in humans and in nature led to these sculptures.
