Lot 9:
Joseph Goodhue Chandler (1813 – 1884). Each oil on canvas, 30 x 24 inches, in period frames. Alexander H. Ballard, aged 25 and his wife, Sarah M. Ballard, aged 24. Painted 1841. Signed by the artist with the names of the sitters on the backs of the canvas.
Alexander Hamilton Ballard was born 1814 in Wendell, Massachusetts. He married Sarah M. Bartlett April 12 or 13, 1840. The 1880 census lists them as living in Chicopee Massachusetts, with his occupation listed as watchman, and hers as homemaker.
