Carved with a snake, marked “JAS. BELL/PRISONER/OF WAR/1862,” overall lg. 33 1/4 in. Together with a Confederate infantry button. James Bell lived in Richmond County, Georgia, and enlisted 5/18/1861 as a private. He was listed as a prisoner on 9/17/1862 in Sharpsburg, Maryland. He was promoted to Sargent Major in 1863.
