A superb example of the uniform of an elite grenadier NCO of the Garde Nationale, which came back into prominence for its importance during the July Monarchy and beyond. The coat is single-breasted, with scarlet collar and cuffs, the latter with a white flap with three small buttons of the Guard. The coat is single-breasted, with nine large, gilded buttons of the pattern worn by the Guard between 1831-1846, with a flaming grenade device surmounted by the words: LIBERTE ORDRE PUBLIC. The skirts have vertical pocket flaps piped red and bearing three large buttons, the scarlet turnbacks embellished with yellow-embroidered, flaming grenades. There is a small button and a scarlet crosstrap on each shoulder, for mounting epaulettes. The coat body, heavily wadded in the breast area, is lined with white linen and the skirts lined with scarlet serge. The coat is in excellent condition, less some soiling in the skirts and a few scattered moth nibs. Two associated epaulettes of scarlet worsted are included. 3 pieces.
