Lot 21:
Late 18th or Early 19th Century. Height 10 1/8 inches. The Ibeji or twin fetish were carved upon the death of one of a pair of twins. The mother cared for the statue and made offerings to it to assure the welfare of the surviving child until the latter reached maturity, at which time the surviving one takes over the offering to the effigy for the rest of his life.
