Length 11.25 inches. Masks appear among the Dan for both entertainment and as materialized symbols of spirit powers per adjudication and social control. Originally owned by individuals and families, mask were given names and promoted as well as demoted according to the wearers status. This mask represents female forest spirits,with its oval, slit eyeful lips and smooth surfaces suggesting an ideal beauty.
