Captain Daniel Tyler served at Bunker Hill as Adjutant to Israel Putnam, his father-in-law. Daniel graduated from Harvard in 1771 and was a friend of Doctor Warren and members of the Patriots. When Paul Revere made his famous ride for the Lexington Alarm, Daniel Tyler continued the alarm to Connecticut on April 20, 1775. He is credited for defending the city of Newport Rhode Island in 1778, which is the cause for which these pistols were presented.

The brace of pistols, cased with accessories is of officer’s holster size (69 cal), and were made by a premiere London gunmaker. THe locks are marked "Tatum, " and the barrels are London proofed on the bottom. Henry Tatham is listed in 1799 as maker to the Prince of Wales and in 1801 he is in business as Tatham and Egg.

This presentation set is one of a few known documented sets given to Revolutionary War Heroes that aided in the American Independence.
