This letter from James Connors to John Lowd of Portsmouth NH was written January 8th 1846. This letter is sent during the build up of soldiers and just months prior to the official start of the Mexican American war. the letter is sent from Encampment Corpus Christi Texas. The letter has great content talking of soldiers being flogged and 25 lashes. speaking of being glad John Lowd did not enlist as he would repented the day he was born. working morning till night. Talks of Dangers of leaving encampment and risk of being killed by cut throats and scape gallows. the letter goes on to say Texas is full of such animals as these.
