Dressed to Kill, Dressed to Till
Lot 109:
British School, early 19th century. Two gouache drawings on Bristol board, 4 ¾ x 3 3/8 in. and 4 5/16 x 3 5/16 in., respectively. The first drawing depicts a vendor of felt hats, carrying such in a basket balanced on his head, dressed in a brown workman’s jacket, red waistcoat and leather breeches, with lace-up “hi-lows” on his feet. The other is of a young girl, dressed in a green dress with white pantalettes below and a straw hat on her head, holding doll in her arms. The backs of the Bristol board indicate that these were removed from a scrapbook at some time.
