CHARLES B.J.F. DE SAINT-MEMIN (FRENCH, 1770-1852) PORTRAIT ENGRAVING OF JOHN SITGREAVES, 1798. Copperplate engraving on paper, 2 5/8 inch-square platemark, inscribed below profile: "St. Memin No. 27 Pine St. N. York"; matted within carved and gilded frame bearing label for Kennedy Galleries on the reverse. John Sitgreaves (1763-1798) was a Philadelphia merchant who sat for St. Memin sometime prior to 9 April, 1798, when the artist signed a receipt indicating the Sitgreaves paid him $58 on that day for his profile portrait and engravings therefrom. John Sitgreaves died shortly thereafter on 3 September, 1798, during the Yellow Fever Epidemic in Philadelphia.
