Edwards was a Lieutenant on the USS United States during the war of 1812 battle with the British Frigate Macedonian. The letter specifically mentions gallantry and good conduct in the conflict with the British frigate Macedonian during the war of 1812. the uss United states took over the British frigate Macedonian. rare award letter.
